Principal, Product Design
7–10 Years | Gurgaon | Full-Time | Budget: 18-24 LPA
Company: iDream Education
Location: Sector 32, Gurgaon
Role type: Full-time, Work from Office (field visits as required)
Experience: 7–10 years of direct and relevant experience in product design, with a track record of owning design outcomes across a product portfolio
Industry Preference: EdTech, Education SaaS, Consumer/B2B Product companies, or Purpose-led B2B/B2G brands
The Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal, Product Design — a senior design leader who will own and manage design across iDream Education's entire product portfolio, and become the single point of contact for all things design. This role sits within the Product function, leading the existing Product Design team and working closely with the Engineering vertical to ensure design intent survives all the way to shipped product.
You will split your time between hands-on design — jumping into flows, screens, and systems where your craft raises the bar — and strategic oversight — setting design direction, managing and mentoring the design team, reviewing output, and ensuring every product decision reflects a coherent design philosophy. You will regularly engage with actual users, both before and after launch, using real usage patterns and data to continuously evolve design decisions. You will present design thinking and outcomes to both internal leadership and external stakeholders, and act as a key point of communication between design, engineering, and other teams. You will also own compliance across relevant guidelines and standards (such as GIGW, WCAG, and others applicable to our products) and documentation, ensuring our products are accessible, compliant, and well-documented as they scale.
This is a role for someone who treats excellence as awareness in action, not perfectionism — someone who refuses to let good-enough ship when better is possible, and who brings joy, lightness, and momentum to a team navigating the hard, unglamorous parts of building a product portfolio at scale.

Core Responsibilities
- Product Design Ownership and Impact
- Design end-to-end product experiences — from concept to shipped screens — for iPrep across web, app, and platform surfaces, with every decision anchored in the impact it creates for learners and teachers. Build, maintain, and evangelise a scalable design system, and apply systems thinking in practice — seeing how individual decisions ripple across products, teams, and user journeys.
- Partner with leadership to shape and drive product vision, translating business and user goals into design strategy. Understand the ROI of design and product work to prioritise across multiple concurrent projects, and act as the single point of contact for design across all products.
- Interact directly with actual users — students, teachers, and field teams — before launch to ground decisions in real needs, and track usage patterns and product data post-launch to continuously iterate and evolve design.
- Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Communication
- Manage and mentor the Product Design team, setting clear goals, giving regular feedback, and growing their craft and ownership over time.
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure designs translate accurately into the actual product — reviewing builds, catching drift early, and closing the gap between design intent and shipped experience.
- Present design rationale, product thinking, and outcomes clearly to internal leadership and external stakeholders, including partners and clients.
- Own communication between the Design team and other functions — Engineering, Content, Marketing, and Leadership — so priorities, timelines, and decisions stay aligned across teams.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure products meet applicable guidelines and standards — including but not limited to GIGW (Government of India Guidelines for Websites) and WCAG accessibility standards — as relevant to each product and audience.
- Own design documentation — specs, guidelines, and rationale — so decisions are traceable and onboarding is fast.
- AI-First Design Workflow
- Champion the use of AI tools — Figma AI, Claude, Adobe Firefly, and emerging platforms — to compress design timelines and raise output quality.
- Identify where AI can replace manual, repetitive design work, and train the wider team on workflows that stick.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 7–10 years in product design, with demonstrable ownership of design outcomes across a multi-product portfolio — not just individual features.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio showing systems thinking in practice — design systems, cross-product consistency, and end-to-end product flows, not just isolated screens.
- Sector Context: Experience in EdTech, consumer/B2B product companies, or mission-driven B2B/B2G environments is a strong advantage.
- Tool Proficiency: Expert-level in Figma, with hands-on experience building and maintaining design systems.
- AI Fluency: You use LLMs and AI design tools as a daily productivity layer — prompting, iterating, and integrating AI output into professional-grade design work.
- User Research & Data Fluency: Comfortable engaging directly with end users pre- and post-launch, and using usage data to inform ongoing design decisions.
- Business Judgment: Able to assess the ROI of design and product initiatives, and prioritise effectively across multiple projects with competing demands.
- Compliance Knowledge: Working familiarity with accessibility and government/regulatory guidelines relevant to digital products (e.g., WCAG, GIGW), or a demonstrated ability to pick up new standards quickly as needed.
- People Leadership: Proven ability to manage and grow a design team, balancing hands-on craft with the responsibility of leading others.
What Makes You a Great Fit?
You've led a design team, not just executed within one. You think in systems, not just screens, and you can tell the difference between work that feels important and work that actually moves the needle — and prioritise accordingly. You care as much about what happens to a design after it ships — how users actually behave, what the data says — as you do about the initial craft. You hold a high bar without being precious about it, and you bring warmth and momentum to the people you manage, treating hard problems and long timelines as something to move through together, not around.
What We're Looking For — Values & Culture Fit
- Integrity: Makes thoughtful, user-first decisions and takes ownership.
- Impact: Creates meaningful experiences that drive user and business value.
- Excellence: Sets high standards for design quality and user experience.
- Collaboration: Influences and works effectively across cross-functional teams.
